It is related to amount of dc voltage. Applying the suitable dc voltage to transformers is one of way to check of transformer magnetizing curve (ø-Imag). However if the amount of dc voltage is greater than R.In which R is transformer primary resistance (not impedance) and In is primary rated current, transformer winding may be burned. Also the dc content of ac voltage of power supply can be caused additional permanent magnetizing of core and its destructive effects such as overheating and voltage/current distortions due to transformer over exciting.
